My Own Experience

When I started face painting several years ago I used a card table and two chairs. My kit consisted of two Snazaroo 6-8 color paint palettes and 4 brushes.

Over the years I have grown as well as my supplies and I believe that I have come up  with a set up that works for me. I have replaced my card table with a six foot foldable table, a director’s chair, a step stool and a fat max.

My Set up

I assemble my paints to the head of the table along with my directors’ chair. (as you can see in the photo above) Next are my brushes and washtub so I can move forward when it comes to painting.

My glitters, liquid bling, gems, hand sanitizer, mirror and stencils are sat behind my brushes and tub with my hand towels, baby wipes, business cards and picture books sat at the back of the table.

Messy Face Paint Set Up - AVOID!

Presentation

I believe that presentation is everything.  A presentable table should look inviting and not cluttered.  A clean table says a lot about your work ethic. Before my face painting days I walked by several tables and told my kids, “No, we won’t be stopping here.”

Even though paints and colors may be appealing the dirtiness isn’t so attractive.

Various Set Ups

When painting at birthday parties vs festivals I down grade my kit to the basic essential 8 colors and a few split cakes and shimmery.  Of course I had to learn that you don’t have to have an action packed kit at every event.

I came up with a clean list that is essential for a productive work station.

1. Clean table cloth
2. Clean brushes
3. Clean non-broken mirror
4. Clean water

WHY DO I NEED A FLAT BRUSH? A flat brush is the perfect shape to similtaneously pick up multiple colors from a splitcake/rainbow cake and paint multi coloured shapes, ribbons, flowers, rainbows etc in just one brushstroke aka “onestroke painting”!

Step 1: Using a damp sponge and orange paint, apply a base coat over the whole face, leaving a clear area in the top corner of the forehead.

Step 2: With  Dark Green paint and brush, draw on the stem of the pumpkin in the clear area, adding wiggly lines as leaves.

Once you have gathered a precious collection of brushes for your face (and body) painting it is important to take good care of them. properly looked after, your brushes will serve you well and will last a long time.

Keep your white white! I use a seperate brush for painting with white, this saves me from trying to wash all of the black or colour out of the brush before using the white. I save time this way and I also keep my white bright instead of grey. I also keep a brush (in a couple of sizes) for black and another for colours.

Regularly wash your brushes with soap or brush cleaner to help them stay in good condition. You can rinse them in 99% alcohol to steralise them – they will need to air dry. Sometimes I use brush shaper on my clean brushes to help the bristles stay in good shape. I dip the brush in and arrange the bristles and leave to air dry. The bristles will remain stiff and hold thier shape, the stiffness disapears the next time you use the brush.

Storage. I like to keep my brushes in a “brush wallet” I can stand it up ready to use at a job, then fold it for storing the brushes when not in use.

At a recent workshop I took this picture of a participant’s great idea for her brushes while working; she has stretched netting over a container holding it in place with a band. its a great way to have your brushes ready to use at a job, keeping  them seperate.

Important: Please don’t leave brushes standing bristle down in water! They will bend and will never be the same again. Also if you have wooden handles these will become swollen causing the  paint to crack and chip off.

It’s important to care for your face painting brushes so they can last longer. A little extra effort cleaning and maintaining them will save you money in the long run. Treat your brushes well and they will treat you well!

Tips for Cleaning & Maintenance of your Face Paint Brushes:

* Wash brushes regularly with brush soap.

* Take care that all face paint remains are removed from the brush, especially around the edge of the metal ferrule.

* Massage brush soap into wet brush head thoroughly to ensure the reconditioning action.

* Rinse. After rinsing, gently remove excess water with a soft cloth by wiping in the direction of the brush tip, bringing the brush back to its original shape.

* Lay brush on an angle, with the hair lower than the handle to dry. This way all the water runs down and doesn’t get stuck in the ferrule or in the handle.

* Let the brush dry completely before next use.

This small effort pays off by increasing brush-life and maintaining the natural elasticity and suppleness of the brush!

I am  a big fan of one stroke face painting with split cakes, it makes face painting so fast and beautiful! It’s great to see you can now buy the Diamond FX Split Cakes on here. Today I have  put together two flower step by steps for you to try, using the (one stroke) Mini Split Cakes and a 3/4 Inch Flat Brush.

The first design, Frangipani, can be painted using the DFX Mini Sunset Split-Cake, just use the side with the white for this design (don’t pick up the violet). You can also use the DFX Mini Jungle Split-Cake for the leaves in both designs. You can use the DFX Mini Party Split-Cake for  the rose design (don’t pick up the violet).

Working out which face painting brush will give you which results is tricky so I’ve posted a few pics that should help you out!

Round brushes are the most used brushes in facepainting.

They come to a sharp point, letting you to paint nice lines, stripes, tear drops, dots & detail.

Most full face designs can be done with a sponged base & a round brush for the detail.

Flat Brushes will create a broad brushstroke & if you turn it on its side it’ll produce thin brushstrokes.

The reason you must have flat brushes:

They’re the perfect shape to pick up multiple colors from a mini splitcake/ rainbow cake in one brush stroke!!

A Filbert is like a flat brush except with rounded edges. It can create thin lines; broad strokes and by varying the pressure or flicking it across, you can get a tapering mark.

Great for flower or petal designs and tear drops!

***************************************************
Angle Brushes: Good for painting around the eyes/eye lid and for painting the line around butterflies as it creates such a lovely line!

It can be used to form wide lines or very thin lines if you use it along the dagger edge.

One of the most important things to look out for is the type of bristles on the brush. You can use brushes with synthetic or natural hair bristles (I prefer synthetic because its easier for me to work with).

And you’ll want a brush with soft bristles that won’t scratch the skin – but at the same time it needs to be firm enough to give you control.

When you’re starting out I would recommend… you get 2 Round brushes, a #2 Round Brush for fine detail and a #4 Round Brush for bigger details like lines, tiger stripes, dots, swirls and curls etc.

Flat Brush & DFX Mini Flames Split Cake

I would also recommend a… 3 Quarter Inch/1 Inch Flat brush to use with the mini split cakes. These are the only brushes wide enough to pick up all the different colors on a split-cake.

This is the bare minimum though, if you want to increase your speed as a face painter, you need to have more brushes so that you’re not washing your brush every 2 seconds! So it helps to get 2 of every brush you need.

Choosing your first face painting kit can be hard.  And I’ve received lots of emails asking what I recommend so I decided to publish this post revealing exactly which products are most important and popular for beginners!

Face Paints/Palettes – Which Colors?
At the VERY least you need Black, White, Red, Blue and Yellow because with those colors you can mix colors together to get every color under the rainbow. BUT when you’re painting at festivals or birthday parties you won’t have time to mix colors so…

You’re going to need at the very least 6 colors but I would highly recommend 8 colors and above to make it easier for you and give you enough colors to truly make your work brillant! We have palettes ranging from 6 colors to a HUGE 54 Color Palette for the pros. But as a beginner I’d reccomend getting a palette with atleast 8-14 colors. The essential colors that I tell beginners to get are: Black, White, Pink, Brown, Orange, Red, Light blue, Dark blue, Light Green, Dark Green, Yellow, Violet. Brushes & Sponges?

If I were to pick the 2 most important brushes for face painting I’d say it would definitely be Round Brushes and Flat Brushes. You will need a #2 Round (or any Fine Round Brush) for fine detail and a #4 Round (or any medium sized round brush) for most of your line work, dots, curls, swirls, stripes and detail.

And you’ll need a 1 Inch Flat Brush because they’re the perfect shape to pick up multiple colors from a splitcake/ rainbow cake in one brush stroke!!

I’d recommend to begin with 2 of each of these brushes – the more brushes you have the better…you don’t want to be washing brushes everytime inbetween clients, you’ll be much more faster if you simply have more brushes.

As for sponges, you’ll want atleast 3 (you can cut them in half to make 6)to practice with to begin.

You need sponges to apply a lot of paint over a big area very quickly and to use with a spit cake/rainbow cake.

Split-Cakes?

A must-have in the face painting world these days. Split-Cakes are cake paints made up of multiple colors so you can apply many colors at once and have them blend easily & instantly for professional results!

We have a wide variety of split-cakes/color combinations that can be used with sponges for big sweeps of blended color OR they can be used with flat brushes for smaller strokes of blended colors. (Note: The DFX Mini Split-Cakes are “mini” and therefore can only be used with brushes)

I recommend you get atleast 2 Split-Cakes to try them out. And check out our video tutorials to see how to use them. You’ll be back for more when you see how amazing the results are, with very little effort on your part!

Glitters?
Glitters can make the difference between a nice face paint design and a design that has the ‘WOW’ factor! Have atleast a couple bottles of Iridescent Glitter/Glitter Powder as you’ll be using a lot of it. Also get yourself a Gel glitter to have more control of the glitter so you can create thin lines of glitter, straight or curved, or even dots with the gel glitter – These will make your designs look amazing – with very little effort!

“Dangers of Cheap Face Paint”

Last year, I started a business where I provide children’s birthday parties and special events with cartoon mascot characters.  Having little artistic ability, but a great idea of adding face painting as an option, I began studying the art of face painting. I went to a local craft store store, picked up the cheapest face paint and thought I could practice on my 3 year old daughter.

My first time ever doing this, my daughter wanted to be a kitty cat. I added some whiskers, gave her a cute pink nose…she tells me her stomach is hurting her. I just figure she is getting fidgety and go to add some brow lines. All of a sudden, she collapses forward onto me shaking. I pick her up and her eyes were rolled up into her head. Terrified, I hold her to me thinking I did something wrong. Her episode finally stops and I rush her to the doctor. They inform me that she probably had a seizure triggered by the smell of the paint.

Of course I never wanted to face paint again. I completely gave it up. Several months later, we went on a beach vacation, and there were face painters there. My daughter wouldn’t stop begging for us to let her get a work of art on her face.  We caved in and I stood in fear expecting the worse. Well, nothing happened! She was just a happy little girl with spongebob on her cheek.

Upon returning home, I went online and found Philadelphia Tivoli.  I read her suggestions on the type of paint to use and her beautiful designs, and I decided to give it another try. My daughter was excited to get butterfly eyes. I again was nervous. However, she came through like a champ! She is now my practice board and we have not had any incidents since.

Moral of the story is, please do not buy cheap paints. I do not know for sure if that is truly what caused my daughters one and only seizure, but it still scares me. I never should have put her in danger by using cheap paints. It’s worth every penny to get the good stuff.

I am now a good (not great) face painter, and I thank Philadelphia for giving me the information I needed to gain the courage I needed to try again.

“Mollies Face Paint Product Review”

Hi Everyone, I have been trying-out different kinds of paint for the last few months, and I thought that I should do product reviews on 3 brands of black face paint: Paradise/Mehron, Snazaroo, and Wolfe Brothers FX.

Paradise/Mehron:
- Professional: 40gm – $8.50
Pros: Great smell! Children & adults enjoy it!
- Quick and easy color application.
- Great for cheek art!
Cons: Paint acts like a sponge. It soaks up water and gets too wet to work with.
Comments: I really do love this black, minus its tendency to soak-up a lot of water.  I found a solution to this problem though: after a long day of painting, I take the lid off the paint and leave it to dry overnight. If it is really wet, I’ll leave it off for a little longer.  People also really do love the “tropical” smell of the paint!

Snazaroo:
- 18ml – $8.00
- 75ml – $24.00
- Kit Size: $10.00

Pros:
- Very cheap!
- Dries on the face quickly.
- Great container sizes.
- Easy-open container.
Cons:
- The color isn’t as rich as the other brands.
Comments:
- I love the price of the paint.  You can practice for hours and hours without feeling like you wasted it.  The color is okay, but I just feel that it isn’t rich enough.  This is great for use on younger children since it is very easy to wash off.

Wolfe Brothers FX:
- 30gm – $8.00
- 45gm – $11.00
- 90gm – $19.00
Pros:
- A small amount lasts a long time.
- BEAUTIFUL application and results.
Cons:
- Expensive
- Stains the skin.
- Sometimes hard to get off.
Comments: - This is by far the most amazing black paint ever!  Although, the paint is a bit pricey.  I found that the paint is great for older children and adults, especially as eyeliner or for extended wear.  This is not the kind of paint that you practice with as it sometimes is hard to get off.  What I like the most is that even a tiny amount lasts a long time.  I usually wear a hole into the outside edge of the paint and then spray a tiny bit of water into the hole.  The resulting black-water lasts a long time.  Overall, I feel that you definitely get what pay for.

Tips for those of you who want to read them instead:

1. A reader of mine, Stacie Smith sent in this tip actually! “I’ve discovered for storing brushes (after they are dry) is a drinking straw holder – the kind that lifts the straws up from a cylinder and then sets back down into it.? That way the bristles are safe if packed away for transport.” Pretty cool idea, huh?

2. After face painting for the day, don’t just rinse your brushes in water, wash them with soap. You’d be surpised how much paint comes out of your brushes! Just rinsing them won’t get everything out, you really need to use soap. You can use laundry soap or you might want to try DaVinci cosmetic grade soap.

3. I can’t remember who I received this tip off but its a good one: ”Get some cotton (I use embroidery thread as it’s easier to untie at the end) and gently tie it round the bristles to the shape you want starting at the handle end. Tie off carefully (remember you’ve gotta get the thread off again without having to cut it so damaging the bristles). leave over night to dry (this could be a few days in cooler weather) untie cotton and your brushes should be back to their proper shape. They’ll never be “new” again but they will be useable.”

Had a question on the blog recently about cake paints and liquid paints. Kim Baker left a comment with the question:

“What are the pros/cons of liquid paint? Do most face painters use the cakes and only liquids for certain things?”

For those of you who didn’t see the comments thread last week this is what I said:

“……And liquid paint verses cakes? Its totally up to the painter. Some beginners might find the liquid paints easier because it can sometimes be tricky to get the right consistency when working with cakes…. Try both, see what works for you.”

I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say that your display board is pretty crucial for your face painting business at bringing in new customers when you’re out face painting right?

I thought I’d give you a simple way to make your own display board for face painting designs from home, that won’t cost you an arm and a leg!

* First of all, take photos of your face painting designs. Make sure you’ve got good lighting and the photos are nice and close up. Also makesure that your models are smiling in the photos, you won’t impress people with sad or cranky looking models now, will you?

* Then print them out and glue them to a piece of cardboard carefully and neatly.  Think about where you’re going to place each photo before you glue them down.

* Makesure to put a title at the top with your Company Name/Stage Name.

* Laminate the cardboard, then stick that to a thicker piece of board (the kind of one that has foam inbetween maybe) And find a way to prop it up like maybe put it on your table between two books.

Looking for more ways to save time when you’re face painting? Well, why wouldn’t you…after all, the more time you save, the quicker you become, and then you’ll be able to paint more faces right?

So here’s my quick tip for today…

If you’re using cake paints that need water to apply, use a spray bottle to moisten it. It’s alot quicker than constantly loading your brush with water and then transferring that to the paint and its alot easier!

Sponges are an amazing tool… when used correctly that is! Sponges are great for applying base coats with speed, but alot of face painters have the problem of not being able to apply the face paint without creating streaks.

If you don’t want streaks, just follow these simple instructions:

* First things first, you’ll get getter results with high density make up sponges, so make sure you’re using the right kind of sponges for the job. Buy quality make up sponges here.

* When painting a base coat, don’t dunk the sponge in water! If your sponge is too wet, the paint will streak for sure! Infact I’ve found that it’s better to just leave your sponge dry.

* If you’re using cake paints, wet the paint (instead of the sponge.) I like to use a spray bottle to wet the paint, just a couple sprays and, I get the correct consistency. And if you’re using liquid paints, then you don’t need to add more water. This will ensure that you’ve got the right amount of paint versus water.

* Fully load your sponge with paint on the side of the sponge you’re going to use, don’t leave any gaps because this will cause streaks.

* Now that your tools are ready, make sure that you dab the paint on, don’t drag it across the face too much because this can also cause yucky streaks especially if you’ve got too much water in the mix!

But remember to experiment, I know that there are other face painters who can make it work by spraying the sponge instead of the paint… you’ve really got to try it a couple different ways to find out what works for you!

A stipple sponge can be very useful to you in face painting!

It’s a textured sponge with lots of holes that when applied can give you a great stubble effect.

It works great on pirate face painting designs when trying to create a 5 o’clock shadow and makes it easy to paint clouds on a design with a blue sky. You can use it to create leaves/bush on trees and it can help you create some pretty impressive sea foam effects on an ocean themed design.

Here’s another one of my favorite face painting ideas: Stick on jewels!

Stick on jewels can also add a whole new dimension to your face painting, transforming your face paintings from amateur to pro. And they’re so easy to use even kids can do it.

First of all make sure that the area of skin you are placing the jewel on is clean and dry. You may want to use a baby wipe on the are first to clean it, then dry it with a towel. Do not bend the jewel. Simply peel off the back of the jewel and stick the ‘sticky’ part of the jewel directly onto the skin or onto the paint that’s on the skin. Also you can get plastic jewels that need to be stuck on with a little dab of paint.

You can place stick on jewels on the face and on the body, so maybe if you’re doing a princess design, you could place a jewel in the middle of the girl’s forehead, then place one on her wrist and paint a bracelet around it.

And stick on jewels don’t just come as seperate ‘jewels’ you can also get whole designs in stick on jewel form. Butterflys, love hearts, flowers even spiders!

It’s up to you and your imagination, there are heaps of different places you can place stick on jewels. It’s one of cool face painting tools you can use with any other face painting ideas you might have.

Here’s one of my favorite face painting ideas – combining face paint and ‘everyday’ make up/cosmetics.

If done right it can look amazing and it can save you time because you don’t have to wait for it to dry like you would with face paints. So if you’re looking for something new to add to your face painting, or you want to stretch yourself as an artist then you’ll enjoy these face painting ideas, so keep reading!

* Blush can be used to make rosy cheeks on a bunny rabbit or a princess face painting design instead using pink face paint. Blush creates a softer, more subtle color and it’s quick to apply. 

* Eye Liner Pencil can be used to outline the eyes or absolutely any part of a face painting design. For beginners it’s much quicker and easier than using a brush. I highly recommend it, it’s a super easy way to create clean lines. And these days you can get eye liner in an endless amount of different colors, so you have alot to choose from.

* Eye Shadow can be used around the eyes and anywhere else on the skin. You can find cheap eye shadow in countless colors, just like blush it’s quick to apply and you may even want to experiment by blending eye shadow with your face paints. It’s up to you, I think you should never stop experimenting with different face painting ideas.

“I read your tip of taking care of the facepainting brushes.  Let me share with you the way I use for cleaning my brushes, maybe this help you. I normally paint with flowers and landscapes with acrylic, and now I want to learn facepainting.

The way I take care of my facepainting brushes is after washing with soap and water I put a rubber band in the brush handle and let it hanging in some place in the kitchen or in the bathroom.  In that way the water inside the bristles are going to drain and the brushes maintain its form.”

Using glitter is an inexpensive way to give your face painting designs the wow factor! They’re so simple to use and the absolutely kids love them.

They’re are a few different types of glitter you can use on your face painting designs, so here’s a brief run down of each type of glitter and how to  apply them to your face painting designs.

Glitter Gel: This is great for adding to face painting designs or you can use it on it’s own. You can easily apply using a brush, small brushes tend to give better results and you can also just use your fingers. Put a little on the eyelids of a princess face painting design or in the wings of a butterfly designs for a magical effect!

Glitter (Iridescent) Powders: These are the finest glitter, a flour type powder. Mix a little powder with the face paint and apply it to the skin. Try this technique with fantasy face painting designs. It will add a ‘high sheen’ to the finished face painting design and a whole lotta pizazz!  It can also be applied on its own with a moist brush or sponge.

Glitter Dust: This is a loose glitter, great for the face and the body. To use it, sprinkle the glitter onto the paint whilst it is still wet and the paint is already on the face. Or, to have a little more control – use a slightly damp brush to add glitter to specific parts of your face painting design like on the nose of a bunny design, or around a batman design.

Personally, I think it’s a good idea for beginners to start practising at home with atleast these five colors: red, blue, yellow, black and white. From these colors, you can create every color under the rainbow. eg. If you mix blue and yellow you’ll get green, mix white and red and you’ll get pink etc

There is a small beginners Diamond FX 6 Color Palette (left) that has all these colors plus green which is not bad for someone just painting for fun/family.

If however you’re looking at doing more than one event, start to make money from face painting OR you just want to make it easier on yourself then I definitely think you should step it up and get atleast 12 colors.

Having this many colors will save you a heap of time when you’re out in the field working because you don’t have to create colors by mixing them, you’ll already have them ready to go.

Here is a list of popular colors to begin with: Black, White, Brown, Orange, Red, Light blue, Dark blue, Light Green, Dark Green, Pink, Yellow, Violet

Okay, here’s an idea for the beginners that can make face painting a little easier, and a little less daunting if you’re not completely confident with painting free hand. You can use face painting stencils to paint faces with ease.

This is a great face painting idea to begin with but keep practising your free hand paintings, people prefer the more unique designs, and so will you once you become a more confident face painter!

To Make Face Painting Stencils You Will Need the Following:
• A craft knife.
• A piece of acetate or stiff plastic.
• A printout of the stencil design (you can draw/sketch on a piece of paper this if you want)
• A cutting board (or a hard surface to cut the stencil out)
• Tape.

Step 1: Design your stencil design by either finding one online and printing it out of drawing one of your own. Try to stick to something simple as the surface area (a child’s face) is quite small and will most likely move while you paint them!

Step 2: Use some tape to stick down the printout (or your sketch) of the stencil design to the piece of acetate along the edges. Make sure that the stencil design is a sensible size for a child’s cheek.

Step 3: Using a sharp craft knife start carefully cut out the stencil.

Make sure to always wash stencil after use, never use an unwashed stencil on somebody, it may cause skin irritations or allergic reactions.

And that’s all there is to it!

I recently had a face painter ask me a great question about what to do when your paints get all runny and gooey in the heat. Face painters have this problem all over the world whenever summer comes around.

You definately don’t want your paints to be gooey, because once the consistency has changed, it’s much harder for you to create the designs that you’ve practiced no matter how many times you’ve practiced them!

Your designs will instantly look not as professional as they could, so I’m going to let you in on a little secret…

And it’s so simple, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it earlier!

The secret is… put your paints on ice!

Keep your face paint jars/palettes in an ice box to keep them from heating up and getting runny and gooey. Or just get a tray, fill it up with ice and put your face paints on top. Yep, it’s that simple!

P.S. A how to face paint blog reader just reminded me that you can apply a loose powder over your design, once it’s dry to help set your face paints, so they don’t melt. Thanks for that! And you can also get loose powders that are shimmery, it makes designs look just magical!

One question a lot of beginners ask is “Is it worth spending more money to buy professional face paint? And this is a totally valid question because professional face paint can end up costing a fair bit depending on how many paints you want.

You might want to get a palette of cheap face paints in the beginning just to start if not sure that you’ll continue or you’re just painting for a one off occasion at home but I would strongly advise that you spend a little extra and buy professional paints for these reasons:

* The colors are more vibrant
- Making your designs look even more attractive!

* They go on smoother
- Making the designs easier to paint!

* They give better and even coverage
- Which instantly makes the design look more professional!

* They’re much easier to apply
- Which will make you even quicker at finishing designs.

* They look and feel much better
(With some professional face paints you actually forget that you’re wearing them because they feel so good!)

- Kids prefer professional face paints for this reason the most. If they feel irritated by cheap paint that feels heavy and dry they’ll scratch, smudge or wash it off much sooner and it won’t be a fun experience for them.

If you’re looking to start painting in public or make a business out of face painting, don’t even think twice about it, professional face and body paint is definitely worth the money.

If you’re still not sure, then just buy a small amount of one color and see for yourself!

(Okay, for all of you who have already subscribed to our free lessons or bought our face painting guide, you’ll already know this – but this is for the complete newbies, so don’t worry…I’ll have more advanced info up here soon )

Using the right face paints is crucial to face painting. And choosing the wrong face paint is a common mistake that new face painters make. A lot of new face painters will just go to their local arts and crafts shop and get crafts paints, or cheap water colors thinking that it’s all the same thing. Not many people realize that you can’t just use any old paints on human skin!

Even most non-toxic acrylics just aren’t safe! It doesn’t matter if they’re water based, acrylic, or oil – if they weren’t made especially for the face and body there will be a high risk of allergic reactions breaking out on the skin. And you don’t want that to happen!

The only face paints you should use are products that have been specially made for face or body painting – it is advised that you stick with water based paints (made for the skin) because they wash off easily.

Don’t run the risk of using the wrong face paints on someone because if something goes wrong, (and it probably will) even if you have insurance, they won’t cover the cost of the damages you could be facing!!

Also make sure when buying face paint to look out for whether or not they comply with various authorities in your country (e.g. U.S. FDA.) within the guidelines for use on the skin. This might sound a little obvious but you’ll be surprised at what people are doing out there!
