Hello Everybody,
I am a big fan of one stroke face painting with split cakes, it makes face painting so fast and beautiful! It’s great to see you can now buy the Diamond FX Split Cakes on here. Today I have put together two flower step by steps for you to try, using the (one stroke) Mini Split Cakes and a 3/4 Inch Flat Brush.
The first design, Frangipani, can be painted using the DFX Mini Sunset Split-Cake, just use the side with the white for this design (don’t pick up the violet). You can also use the DFX Mini Jungle Split-Cake for the leaves in both designs. You can use the DFX Mini Party Split-Cake for the rose design (don’t pick up the violet).

Beautiful designs Ambah! Would love to see more with the split cakes
I bow down to you Ambah, this makes good sense, I think that I may finally be able to do a rose….It’s the petals that give me such a bother, I can to the first part but making those petals look like their delicately rolling outward, is what I am shooting for. And the leaves…well, I am just focusing on one thing at a time. lol
I wish you would do more video instruction more often…but thank you so much for the ones that you give us.
wow amazing i really like them . really help me love you x
I like how y’all give advice, some of it helps but todays not so much. I am a beginner, so when you say load the brush and you use two colors, i kind of chuckle cause I have know clue how you did that. I get you use the split cakes but still. and when you say make a leaf (lol) that is impossible how do you make the little points, how is the middle lighter than the out side. This is not easy to learn sometimes. but I thank you for all your help. Jennifer
Thanks for sharing your talents with us, Ambah! And many thanks to Philadelphia for putting all this knowledge together in one place. You are both amazing!
Hi Jennifer, we will be coming out with some split-cake tutorials ver y soon. But for now… to pick up 2 or more colors on a split-cake, just run your flat brush back and forth over the cake/over the colors that you want to pick up and that way you’ll have 2 or more colors on your brush, so when you go to paint with that brush you’ll have 2 or more colors that come out instantly.
It’s actually really easy once you just have a play with the split-cakes – it makes a lot more sense when you’ve got one infront of you to experiment with – it’s not complicated at all.
About the leaves…I think we’ll have to get Ambah to do a tutorial on the leaves as well now!
I have been painting off and on for a few years. Not anything serious. But, I do want to get into doing this full time. I would love more tutorials on how to do one stroke designs. I can’t wait for my first split cake to get here so I can start learning. I do everything the long way and it really slows me down when I have a long line of kids.
I am so happy I tripped over these daily email tips while I was home sick last week!!! I am getting ENERGIZED about painting again!!!
Ty for your help and keep up the great work!
Betina
Thanks for this tutorial! Now to buy some split cakes!
i love the natural look of it.
Just starting out using split cakes and this really helped me. Would love to see more.
Thank you
Karen.
I was looking at the split cakes and didn’t see a leaf split cake, like she noted in her tutorial.
Hi Lisa, what you need to make a one stroke leaf is the DFX Mini Jungle Split-Cake:

I love the detail in your painting and I wish to learn how to face paint like you. However, I live in Byhalia, Mississippi about 30 miles south of Memphis, Tn. and can not find anyone who gives face painting lessons. I was wondering if you knew of someone who gives classes in my area?
beautiful! Thanks!
I love the tutorials, thank you. I noticed you are doing Perth & Melbourne workshops. Will you be coming to Sydney at all?
Hi Ambah, these two designs, reinforced what I learnt in the workshop I did in July, thanks again for brilliant easy designs.
That is so great and fast girl’s will love this flowers.
Wow! Folk art at its BEST! Thanks Ambah! Don’t forget a little glitter sprinkled over the flowers, you will get even more “Wow”s!
Thanks so much Ambah, these are great, I’ve also been practicing the Hibiscus flower which is so easy too, just love these split cakes, and get such a response from parents when I use them on the children especially the rainbows. Unfortunately I work Tuesdays & Wednesdays, otherwise I would have come to your classes in Perth, hopefully next time, look forward to many more of these step by steps from you…
You tips are amazing.Defo be getting some split cakes to try. It’s a pity I can’t attend your workshops, don’t think my hubby would let me fly from Scotland for them!!Will be trying the flowers soon ,you make it look so easy.Fingers crossed.
Thanks again.
This article was great! Do you know of any face painting teachers anywhere close to Tennessee? I am trying to get started and can’t find anyone close?
Thanks for any info you can give me!

Hi ! I’m so amazed with how the painting is done. I intend to do this for a hobby and make cute lil kids happy. Will buy kits as soon as I finish the free video teachings and I want the simple designs for fast painting during parties.
Hi Eureka,
We can definitely ship to South Africa!
And Mina – glad you’re enjoying the videos
Hi,
I love getting all your tips in my email. Thank you! I always forget how to make the rose, so this was great…
I also go to face painting tutorials. Then I take out my paints and practice on my arms or one of my children (or their friends).
I love using the split cakes for butterfly wings. They blend beautifully and QUICKLY.
I just got the rainbow cake and it was such a time saver. Lots of oohs and aahs last weekend. I can wait to get some more.
Thanx Ambah for sharing these 2 flower tutorials. Also, thanx to Philadelphia for displaying the tutorial. Keep them coming as there quite helpful
Hi everyone,
I have just come across this amazing site, I have wanted to learn to face paint for so long, mainly as a hobby for my kids, family and friends with the occasional fund raising effort thrown in for a couple of organisations I volunteer with, if I become good enough. I’m on North West coast of Tasmania and haven’t been able to locate any instructors/trainers so far within Tas, Ambah do you come to Tas or is anyone able to suggest someone within the state?
Hi Anna, check out Ambah’s website for her workshop tour cities and dates here: http://www.ambah.com.au
Hi just new to this sight, have been facepainting for a few years now and always enjoy learning new designs. I haven’t used the split cakes before are they very expensive? is this face paint parent friendly. by that i mean easyily removeable and non smudging.
Hi! I’m new at this and it’s a lot that I need to learn. Your flowers are beautiful but can you show how to make them in a video? That would be better for me to learn how to make them. Thanks.
Thank you once again, unfortunately, I couldn’t get on my computer yesterday & so missed class. Have just bought some split cakes , My arm was full of flowers yesterday. Today it is autumn leaves and a butterfly , everyone here thinks I am a biker with tatoos,
