Your Face Painting Business Card

by Sharon Hodges · 10 comments

Hi Everyone!  I’m Sharon Hodges and I was thrilled to be asked to participate with the instructional posts and am always happy to share the little I know with anyone that loves to paint people too.

I am always working on trying to share the things that have been the most helpful for me as an artist and in business so I will begin with something as simple as your business card.  I have come to learn how truly important your business card can be.

What we do is so highly visual and all promotional materials  need to be as visual as we are.  I once had a client that told me she held my card for 4 years waiting for the opportunity to need my services.  That was very impressive to me.  I have always had my cards designed by someone who is proficient in computer graphics and has an eye for doing that kind of work.

I also will have a banner made using the same graphics as my card to stay consistent but also to maintain that high visability.  Normally the banner size will run 3′ x 10′,  below is an example of  a banner that I have used in the past and a promotional picture that was created by one of my clients that ran prior to the job I did for her.

I recently had new cards designed and will share them as well once they are done and at some point soon I will have a banner made to match the new design but wanted to share some visual examples.

When people can see you from very far away they may not have the time to linger but will take a moment to ask you for your card and it is very important to be sure they will remember you and what you do.

My goal no matter what job I am doing is to hope that every person I come into contact with says “that is the best face painting I have ever seen” and your card is the lingering memory of that moment.  They both need to last!

As both a graphic designer and a facepainter I couldn’t agree more Sharon! I’ve just finished designing my own business cards, and am quite lucky that one of my best friends is a professional photographer, and my gorgeous 3yo son makes a fantastic tiger! I’ve put a link here http://www.debbiewood.com.au/businesscard.html

U guys ROCK! Thank u ALL 4 your info & expertice & sharing your experience…! No matter how long we all have been face painting i find I can ALWAYS learn somethg new or get new inspiration! Any way… I just wanted 2 share where I got my banner… birthdayexpress.com… It was like maybe $20 – they do “Bday” banners… but i just took one of their cute designs (bugs, butterflies, flowers) and instead of them putting “H-Bday Day so-n-so” I had them put my business name… its colorful & strong and lasts a long time… My banner is probably going on 4 – 5yrs and it still looks great! Love 2 u all… Happy Painting! JEN <3

Hi Stephanie & Sharon, Great business card and banner – yes it’s good to be consistent with logo or design or colour that represents you.
Checked out your gallery and it’s fantastic. I notice you have a majority of adult models. Do you get a lot of gigs to paint adults?

Question: How do you get such clean lines and such clean edges to your base paints. I usually put the base on with sponges, but the edges are never really neat & clean. Likewise my black lines are not as clean & dark as yours. A particular example of yours is the “Striped Flower Fantasy” – what a beautiful design.

Cheers
Nikki

Thanks Nikki for that lovely compliment. When I apply the base often times I will draw a line and then drag the color down with a sponge, that is if I am trying to get clean edges for that particular design. As to the line work that just takes practice…..the more you do it the better you get.

All I can say is WOW!!!!! This is a fantastic business card!!! I am very impressed with the adult tiger you painted, I think light blue looks lovely in the design! Congratulations, keep up the good work!

I dont really know what a bunner is, could some one please explain? :) Sorry! I am from Cyprus, I don´t know the shops people talk about in th blog because we don´t have them.

I am a face painter for almost a year now, I am also a make up artist. I enjoy face painting, it offers me happiness and satisfaction every time the children look in the mirror and immediately glow and smile! Especially if the say ´´wow´´! So cute!

I had invested in business cards and flyers, but I am now dissappointed because people get them and propably throw them away, or they tell me, when I need you I will get your number through my friend etc. They do find my number from parents that hired me before, which is good, but I would also like it if they kept a card of mine. Now I even forget sometimes to give cards, afraid and embarassed of their reaction.

Not many people appreciate proffesional face painters in my country, they pefer entertainers so in order to stay competitive I offer those services too. If I have a party I do the face painting first and then play with the children, offering winner prices etc. I have an event next month in a junior school that is just for face painting and i am so looking forward to that!

Anyway, I think you are fantastic :) What brand of paints do you use? I use Snazarroo but would also like to purchase something else.

A Banner is a long sign that you tie to trees or posts. Typically you want to use durable material so you can use it over and over again. Specialty printing shops and advertisement stores can make them for you or you can make one yourself if you want to save $. If you have access to a fabric store, material or even a bed sheet you can make one yourself using fabric paints, fabric markers and even tie-dye. The banner would be a way to advertise your company so make sure it has your business name!
I hope this comment helps a little!
