The Detailz looks awesome and I absolutely love the name of the product! I think they took one of the more difficult aspects of facepainting (dots and fine lines) and made it simple – a definite asset for the face painter with time on her mind.

After watching this little review, the detailz just seem like an awesome simple addition to my kit~~ I definately have a tendency to make bigger dots than I always want– so what a need simple little tool! One question, how is the drying time?

Hi ,
i watched your video on tips to how to use your paints. iam a bigginer and i really like to do the face painting more like body art.. not so much alot of painting just like the small characters and such for kids. i am looking for a website to buy a hole kit with all brushes, paints , glitters, powders and such for me to start..painting.. i really know how to draw so that helps out alot. i printed out some designs and i practice painting them on my children. If you could referre me to a website where i can purchase this items please let me know .. i also would like to learn how to paint more designs.

Wow, I’m almost finding it hard to keep up with all the comments, its great to hear from you all, I ‘m sooooo happy you’re enjoying the blog!

To answer some questions:

Kim — Practice pad, how do you wash a practice pad? Warm soapy water should do it. If not, get onto the harder stuff like spray and wipe. Also try to wash the pad straight after you painted it, while its still wet. That way it should come off easily. But other people have had probs with Wolfe Bros paints, so try to avoid using those paints on the practice pad

Toni — Yep, each Detailz bottle should have a ball inside it to shake it up. If the sponge isn’t wet enough, dunk it back in the bottle to load it up with more paint and you should be fine.

Allan — If you want to buy face paints and brushes in Aussie dollars, go to your local arts and crafts store or Spotlight. They usually stock a face paint called Derivan. Its not my personal fav, but its inexpensive and it will get the job done.

Thanks Philadelphia for your great lessons and another great tip! The videos are really helpful. I started face painting 1 year ago as a volunteer convenor at my sons school fete and got paid jobs from that and I might just have to invest in some detailz to help with time saving doing detailed designs, we had a cue 1 and a half hour long! We are now moving to Singapore so hopefully they enjoy facepainting there too!!?!

Hello, just tried out Details this past weekend first time. Do all of the colors have a ball inside to mix? You can hear it in two out of three of my colors when i shake the bottle. Also I didn’t find the sponge to be wet enough.

Anita — About Hygiene, just wash the applicator as you would a paintbrush and it shouldn’t be a problem.

Cheryl Gleason — Practice Heads from Silly Farm? I haven’t tried one yet but I’ve heard good things, I actually use a practice pad which I find is great for practicing techniques and designs.

Nicki — I’ve never stained my clothing with it, but I guess it would stain just as bad as any other paint. To be safe, only wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Hi, Re: the Detailz product – does it stain clothing? I have found that some liquid face paints can stain clothing – great to apply to the face and washes off very easily from skin – but my costume suffered badly as it wouldn’t wash out of the fabric.

I also have used the Detailz for a while now, and I love them. I also had trouble getting good accents and them being the right size, so the Detailz really helped me with getting good accents. I use several different colors my favorites are white, black , gold, and silver!

I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed the free online classes and also the U-tube video.I am excited about adding these wonderful skills to my profile. Yes I use detailers all the time,this is truley a beautiful finish on any facepaint design….I love the electric blue paint by snazaroo and will be ordering that this week.You are very talented and creative as well.
My question to you is what are some really quick faces to offer now that the bussiest season is vastly approaching…I usually try to keep things simple if I am doing a combined service including a show.I’m up for suggestions,what do you think(1hr.-30/ min.to paint up to 15) your imput would be appreciated.

Hi Philadelphia, Thanks for the video. I have used Detailz for a while now and really like the product. The mileage is good for how many times one must dip and the dots are fairly regular in size depending on how hard you press on the applicator. I have used them to outline a small design (heart, balloon etc) when I have a squirmy child that would be difficult to paint a good outline on. The consistency is thicker hence it doesn’t blend in as easy with the color that is being painted.

Has anyone used the face painting practice head available on Silly Farm? I’m looking to practice sponge techniques. Any other products anyone has painted full faces on? Cheryl Gleason

I am concerned about hygiene issues with the Detailz. If using a fine paintbrush for doing basically the same thing (dots, fine lines) the paintbrush (at the least) gets rinsed off between uses, and thoroughly cleaned between facepainting events. Any comments on that? Thanks.

Hi Kim,

Good question! I think its easier using the Detailz, definately a fun way to do it and its great for newbie face painters who don’t have much control over their small brushes just yet.

So if you don’t have a problem with doing small details with a brush, then you probably don’t need it, but if you’re a new to face painting, you can get some really awesome results, even if you haven’t been painting for long.
